According to the entity that manages the domain from which cookies are sent and processes the obtained data, two types can be distinguished:First-party cookies: Those that are sent to the user's terminal equipment from a computer or domain managed by the website's publisher and from which the requested service is provided.

Third-party cookies: Those that are sent to the user's terminal equipment from a computer or domain that is not managed by the website's publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through cookies.In the case where cookies are installed from a computer or domain managed by the website's publisher, but the information collected through them is processed by a third party, they cannot be considered first-party cookies.

There is also a second classification according to the length of time they remain stored in the client's browser, which can be:
Session cookies: Designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website. They are usually used to store information that is only relevant to provide the requested service on a single occasion (e.g., a list of purchased products).
Persistent cookies: The data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie's owner, which can range from a few minutes to several years.

Finally, there is another classification with six types of cookies based on the purpose for which the obtained data is processed:
Technical cookies: These allow the user to navigate through a website, platform, or application and use the different options or services available, such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted access areas, remembering the items that make up an order, carrying out the purchase process of an order, requesting registration or participation in an event, using security elements during navigation, storing content for video or sound broadcasting, or sharing content through social networks.
Personalization cookies: These allow the user to access the service with some predefined general characteristics based on a series of criteria on the user's terminal, such as language, the type of browser used to access the service, the regional configuration from where the service is accessed, etc.
Analytics cookies: These allow the owner of the cookies to track and analyze the behavior of users on the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookies is used to measure the activity of the websites, applications, or platforms and to create navigation profiles of the users of those sites, applications, and platforms, with the aim of introducing improvements based on the analysis of the usage data made by the users of the service.
Advertising cookies: These allow for the most effective management of advertising spaces.
Behavioral advertising cookies: These store information about the users' behavior obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on it.
External social media cookies: These are used to allow visitors to interact with the content of different social platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and are generated only for users of these social networks. The conditions of use of these cookies and the information collected are regulated by the corresponding social media platform's privacy policy.
